About West Improvement District

The Pretoria West Industrial Area is looked upon as a critically important Industrial Area as it hosts some of the large Manufacturing Companies in the Capital City, e.g.: Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBCSA); Heunis Rainwater Goods, PPC Cement and Kare Sheet Metal Products, etc..

More than 150 businesses operate from Pretoria West Industrial, creating thousands of employment opportunities within  the City of Tshwane.

The Capital City Business Chamber (CCBC) therefore, took the initiative to establish a City Improvement District (CID) for the West Industrial Area, i.e.: the West Improvement District (WID). A City Improvement District (CID) is also known as an Internal Municipal Service District – IMSD.

An IMSD/CID, is a geographic area in which a majority of property- or businesses owners have come together and agree to provide an extra level of public service in the area through an additional contribution towards key services required. CID’s are Community/Business driven initiatives where the private sector takes the lead in supporting the Municipality in revitalizing specific demarcated areas. These additional services could include beautification and grass-cutting, fixing of potholes, fixing of water leaks, upgrading of electrical infrastructure, security services, business networking sessions, etcetera. The establishment of CID’s are acknowledged as one of the key mechanisms for revitalizing specific economic nodes within cities.

The first step towards the establishment of the West Improvement District (WID), required the establishment of a Community Upliftment Precinct (CUP)  – a legal entity which enables business within a demarcated area to work together with the Municipality to change the image of the area. The WID CUP has been officially approved and signed by the City Manager of Tshwane on 5th February 2025
